The 21st Folio is a bi-weekly podcast about modern Shakespeare productions of stage and screen. New episodes are released on Mondays and Fridays.
Regular Episodes
Each regular episode explores one or more productions — film adaptations, recorded theatre productions, and everything in between — and how it changes the way we look at Shakespeare’s text. We also explore issues related to adapting Shakespeare for the film, how best to capture live theatre productions for posterity, and more.
Interviews
Occasionally, we interview talent — actors and directors — about their work on a Shakespeare production. Thus far, we have interviewed actress Maxine Peake about her performances as a transgender Hamlet at the Manchester Royal Exchange, which was recorded for the screen.
Sorting Shakespeare
Because many of our guests are Hogwarts aficionados, we sometimes produce special episodes of Sorting Shakespeare in which we sort Shakespeare characters, both from the texts and from specific productions, into their respective Hogwarts houses. In our pilot episode, we sorted the characters from Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, and Henry V.
