In this episode, we discuss the 2019 Almeida Theatre’s production of Richard II starring Simon Russell Beale, which was broadcast to cinemas worldwide via NTLive.

Joe Hill-Gibbons directed this streamlined 1 hour and 40 minutes (no interval) production of Richard II starring Simon Russell Beale.
The production is quite stripped down, taking place on a mostly bare stage with concrete walls and floor, and only the crown, some weapons, buckets, and gloves as props. This small cast also remains on stage throughout the entire run time, and everyone but Simon Russell Beale (as Richard) and Leo Bill (Bolingbroke) plays multiple roles.
